The 500 kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen line is a national key project that has been approved by the Prime Minister to approve the investment policy, assigning Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) as an investor.

This is a dual -circuit 500 kV line project with a total length of 229.5 km, with a total of 468 locations of electric poles. The project passes through 4 provinces including Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc, with the first point of the 500 kV Lao Cai transformer station, the end point is the 500 kV Vinh Yen transformer station. The total investment of the project is more than VND 7,410 billion, of which 80% is arranged from the loan capital of the Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank), the reciprocal capital of EVN is 20%.

After putting it into operation, this 500 kV line is capable of transmitting about 3,000 MW from hydroelectric plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid and increasing the ability to import electricity. At the same time, creating a strong link between the areas in the electrical system, improving the ability to operate safely and stable for the national electricity system, reducing the power loss in the transmission net, improving EVN’s electricity and business efficiency.

After completion, the project will contribute to ensuring electricity and energy security for the North, contributing to socio -economic development, national defense and security, ensuring energy security for the country’s industrialization and modernization process.

Report on the project implementation situation, EVN leaders said that the project preparation was completed; capital arrangement; technical design approval; approving the design of construction drawings of construction part items; Basically completing the contractor selection and signing contracts for construction and installation packages and supplying steel columns, providing equipment and materials, the remaining bidding packages are being urgently considered for bidding to complete the contract signing in March 2025 to meet the project progress; coordinate with localities to hand over part of each construction schedule; At the same time, construction has been implemented in Yen Bai and Phu Tho provinces right after signing the contract to meet the overall progress of the project.

EVN pledged to direct the Project Management Board, contractors, consulting units, coordinate well with local authorities to determine to implement the construction of works to energize on schedule assigned by the Prime Minister.

Promote lessons learned from the 500 kV line project.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the important and great significance of the implementation of the GDP growth target of at least 8% in 2025 and growing 2 numbers in the coming years.
